Growing up and moving out

Finally, a post of something interesting going on in my life!

After graduating from Mudd, most of my summer was spent job hunting. Day after day, my dad kept lamenting the fact that I did not apply to grad school because of the economy. But guess what Dad, I got the last laugh and got a job offer after my first interview. The best part? It's in a research lab rather than a biotech company. Even better. Icing on the cake? Located in San Diego. Say whaaaat?!?!

I love my family, don't get me wrong. I just need to get away from them for awhile and have them see that I am actually a 22 year old capable of being on my own and doesn't need a chaperone when I'm out on dates.

First step after accepting the job - apartment hunting. Parents were picky, such as no first floor apartments and location, so I'm paying a lot for the location (UTC). Gosh and all the fees required for just applying to a place. Holding fee, application fee, and then the security deposit. Oh well, my parents were quite impressed with the place I ended up with. And they were willing to help me out with the kitchen supplies and a bed. Most of the kitchen supplies will probably last me past grad school (fingers crossed), so yay for one time investments. The best part is that I got approved on my own credit, since the apartment is solely under my name. I feel almost grown up, paying my own electricity, internets... Just give me a few months and maybe I'll independent. So exciting and I'm living on my own. No roommates or suitemates (Though I do miss my old suitemates).

Next step is the actual move. That's happening tomorrow, though I will be in So-cal tonight. Eventually, I'll be able to post pics of my little apartment. The color scheme I've been going with is red. The walls are really white and bare, I just need to warm it up a bit. Can't wait until I have more to post!
