Sudden Cravings

Today, I had this crazy hankering for ice cream. Generally, one can see ice cream as an object of desire since it is creamy, sweet, and refreshingly cool. Why I consider my sudden craving as crazy is the specific way I wanted my ice cream to be served.

What triggered this craving? While I was packing up my bags, some which I have had since grade school, I must have gotten nostalgic. Once upon a time in Newark, there was this ice cream parlor. Going to Swensen's was always a special treat. I remember very well I would always pick something from their chocolate sundaes section. Eventually Swensen's became Jurassic Ice Cream and then after that, it was converted to a chinese restaurant. Sadness and disappointment filled my heart when my best friend and I arrived at the location in order to catch up over ice cream sundaes covered in whip cream and nuts and assorted special toppings and gooey caramel and hot fudge pooling at the bottom. Ugh just thinking about it now is making me drool.

True I can satisfy the sundae craving by going to Baskin Robbins or Cold Stone, but it's just not the same. Sitting down at a table, looking at a menu, and then ordering a sundae that will be served in a sundae glass with a long spoon and plenty of napkins (if you're a messy eater), that is what I want. That's what I'm craving. I kept searching for ice cream parlors that have that M.O. near my home but all I got were the Baskin Robbins and other ice cream shops. Not what I want. Oh but I did find out that Swensen's is actually a franchise AND there is one in San Francisco. I am going to try and go there before I leave and I am either going to order a frosted choc malt fantasy or a chocolate earthquake. However, that looks like a two person task.

Here's what I'm craving for: http://www.swensensicecream.com/

In the meantime, I just looked for some ice cream in the house to temporarily quash my cravings until I get the real deal. Kind of sad that all we have at home is just vanilla ice cream and no fixings like nuts or sprinkles or fudge. Oh well, when I have my own place I can keep all that stuff in my kitchen. That just means I have to work out a lot, but it'll be worth it. Maybe if I ever have a lot of money, I'll open an ice cream parlor like that. Trevor could be my business partner. Hehe... my version of the American Dream: Sundaes
